Senior Researcher - Civil Engineer, MSc, Expert in Urban Water Management, Water-Energy Nexus, Hydroinformatics
Mrs. Sandra (Sotiria) Baki is a Civil Engineer (NTUA, Greece, 2000), specialising in Hydrology and Environmental Management (MSc, Imperial College London, United Kingdom, 2001).
Ms Baki has 18 years’ experience in research and consultation, mainly focusing on the sustainable development of cities and communities related to urban water through the implementation of decentralised and innovative water technologies (greywater recycling, rainwater harvesting, etc.) and the analysis of water-energy interactions; on hydrologic, hydraulic and eco-hydrologic catchment modelling, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as water resources management, urban water management, flood risk assessment and environmental impact assessment studies.
She is a senior research research associate at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), in the Water Resources and Environmental Engineering Department, where she is also carrying out her PhD research on the design and optimization of water – energy systems with an emphasis on decentralised system technologies and renewable energy generation.
She has participated in 14 research projects, as well as in various proposal submissions for EU and national funding.
She has in total 17 publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings.
Ms Baki has also worked as an Engineering Hydrologists for three years in WS Atkins, a major UK consultancy; during her employment she took part in a wide range of projects for various UK water companies and the UK Environment Agency. She has also collaborated with non-governmental organisations in developing countries concerning water, sanitation and environmental issues.
