Research Associate - Economist, MSc, PhD Candidate, Expert in Natural Resource Economics, Industrial Symbiosis and Ecological Finance
Mr. Georgios Karakatsanis is an Economist; graduate of the department of International and European Economics of Athens University of Economics and Business.
He continued his post-graduate studies in National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where in his M.Sc. Thesis he introduced significant innovations in the field of Ecological Finance Engineering.
In the period 2007-2013 he worked in banking on issues of ecological investments, risk management and business continuity.
Since May 2013, he is a Ph.D. Candidate in NTUA in the subject of Natural Capital Econometrics, with extensive research and teaching experience in Natural Resource Economics. Between 2014 and 2016 he collaborated with Technische Universität München (TUM), receiving a DAAD scholarship as a Guest Lecturer and Researcher in the international research program NEXUS Energy-Water-Food on the conflict resolution for the management of water resources in the Nile Basin, where he organized and conducted the post-graduate course “Energy, water and economic dynamics of the Nile Basin countries”.
At the same period he was a Guest Scientist in the Oscar von Miller Forum (OvMF), where he coordinated several workshops and lectures on the field of Natural Resource Economics for Engineers.
Since September 2019, he is the co-founder and director of EVOTROPIA Ecological Finance Architectures P.C. that develops digital infrastructures for Industrial Symbiosis and financial instruments for the Circular Economy.
Since 2020, he serves as board member and Director of the Special Committee for Circular Economy & Built Environment of the Sustainable Building Council Greece (SBC-GR).
