George E. Bariamis is a Water Resources and Environmental Engineer, Researcher and Consultant. He is currently a PhD candidate in NTUA School of Civil Engineering while he holds an MSc in Hydrology and Environmental Management of Water Resources (NTUA) and an Integrated Diploma-MEng in Civil Engineering (University of Patras). He has 12 years of experience in the fields of water resources science and technology, working in the following thematic areas: hydrology; integrated water resources management; climate change adaptation; water scarcity and droughts; floods; environmental-economic accounting. He has advanced skills in water resources and environmental modelling, data management and GIS applications.
He has experience in the analysis of reported data from various policies and statistical sources (e.g., WFD, FD, UWWTD, BWD, HD, WISE SoE, Eurostat, FAO-AQUASTAT, OECD, Copernicus, NASA, USGS), and in the development of technical descriptions, assessments and visualisations for environmental indicators published by the EEA and Eurostat (e.g. WEI+, Agri-WEI+). He has provided technical consulting to various projects funded by the EU (European Statistical Training Programme on Water Statistics and Accounts; Water and Environment Support in the ENI Southern Neighborhood Region ENI-SEIS East), EEA (European Topic Centre on Inland, Coastal & Marine Waters; Support to Eastern European Neighborhood countries in the area of water; Study of the impacts of pressures on groundwater in Europe) and DG ENV (UWWTP country profiles). He has contributed significantly to the implementation of the European water accounts and WEI+ indicator by the EEA. He has also contributed to the research activities of the national research project “Energy analysis and optimization at wastewater treatment plants for the reduction of energy footprint and greenhouse gas emissions”. He has published several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, international conferences, and technical reports.
